SECTION B:
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: VITAMINS & MINERALS

READ MATERIALS ON HEALTH:

"The Surgeon General's report on Nutrition and Health says that diet-related diseases account for 68% of all deaths in this country.

Our kitchens and our food purchase decisions can replace the doctor's office.  Did you know that fewer than 10% of Americans are getting the minimum amount of fruit and vegetabels, according to the American Journal of Public Health? And did you know that according to the National Center for Disease Control 25% of low-income blacks suffer from linear growth retardation resulting from malnutrition?  We must eat to live and declare war on fat and malnutrition."

CULTURAL AROMATIC SOUPS ADD COLOR AND ARE RICH IN PROTEIN

S.O.U.P. and Self-Care

Make bean soups using high-quality natural ingredients with Legumes. Because of the protein content in bean soups, they are a good food for filling one up on a vegetarian lifestyle when and a compliment with other dishes. Beans are multiculural and very hearty.

The Muslims are well known for serving their muffins with small navy beans, such as the white, pink or red.

Try the Japanese red adzuki beans with kombu cooked in. Kombu is a sea vegetable.

The Indian lentil beans are used to make samosas. Lentils are also very popular in Ethiopian Cuisine, served with the flat circular Njera bread. Lentils come in a variety of colors: black, green, and orange.  Lentil soups can be made in less than an hour.

Beans from the soup can be served in creative tasteful recipes like for chili and the Mexican tacos or burritos.

Add fresh vegetables & fresh herbs to your soups to add more flavor and nutrition. This way beans will never become boring.

INTRODUCING NEW FOODS

L'dia Men-Na'a is Certified Wholistic Health Educator, an Accredited Positive Parenting Facilitator, Certified Childbirth Educator/Doula aNumerologist/Aromatherapist, and an artist.

L'dia uses food as an artistic medium to introduce healthier lifestyle habits to families. Food preparation and cooking can be a stress reliever, by using fresh herbs one benefits from the aromatherapy during the preparation process of each dish.

Learning about health can be an enjoyable engaging process during the S.O.U.P.S. WORKSHOPS Self -Acceptance Of Universal Purpose and Self-Care" Identify your Life Purpose and learn about personalizing your families' meals by focusing on soup as the center.

Make your home a more peaceful and relaxing environment with aromatherapy that is harmonious to ones vibrational make-up. Learning can be so much fun 😃

PLANT MEDICINE

I remember growing up seeing bouquets of flowers and herbs always decorating the kitchen or dining room tables. Smelling them was healing. We took time, often 2-3 hours prepping and cooking meals for our families.

The feast begins with the eyes being pleased made the food taste so much better. Today children have been influenced to get excited anticipating whats in a box from a fast food establishment. We have been trained to be happy about a meals that contribute to:

[_] dis-eases associated with nutritional deficiencies

[_] sadness and grief

[_] weakened immune systems

[_] diabetes

[_] high blood pressure

[_] elderly heart disease

[_] Alzheimer's and dementia

ACTS OF LOVE

Avoid rewarding children with food.  When we do this we are rushing our children into unhealthy habits that will affect the quality of their lives now and in the future adulthood.

Taking time to cook is an act of love. With modern kitchen tools and conveniences like food processors making home made meals are faster, easier, healthier, and made with love. Microwaving is not recommended.

When you go food shopping also include stopping by the flower section at the farmers market or grocery store. Decorate our tables in the kitchen and dining areas. They are our laboratories, the places where family healing begins.

GENERATION
AFTER GENERATION

THE ELDER'S PLACE AT THE TABLE
GRANDMA'S HANDS:
Grandmother would always pick something from the earth in our little modest garden nothing fancy, just a corner by the side of the house or sidewalk. Her favorites were the herbs in the mint family. She simmered the herbs, then she gave to us usually in the form of a tea or a salve.

A LIFESTYLE BASED ON THE CONVIENENCES:

Today's generation of families has to relearn the healthier ways of shopping, storing, preparation and eating. This commercial age that began in the 60's and intensified in the 80's has advertised convienence at the expense of health. The result of which has given rise to the doctor's visits and a need for medications. For many of us it is due to introducing poor quality food, non-food substances, artificial chemicals, and age inducing hormones that do not benefit our health. We are being destroyed. What we put in our mouths deteriorates our bodily functions.

      • 1. How does mother or father influence the families food preferences?
      • 2. What is the unborn child learning about taste, flavors, and health from their mother's womb?
      • 3. How is mother being supported in getting healthier foods for the children for creating healthier communities?

WHAT RUNS IN YOUR FAMILY?
